I have finished my Feudal Castilian army for DBA. All I have to do is the camp, I ´m still thinking about it, I haven´t decided how it will be, I´m considering different options: a simple one with a tent and some camp followers, one with a tower or an Arab watchtower.
The truth is that this army has an special affection since my parents are Castilians; from Burgos and Soria.
In Mezquetillas Municipal District, my mother´s town, Almanzor passed through in his way to Medinaceli were he passed away shortly before. The parish church was built upon an Arab tower which had a cistern, and belonged to the Jalon´s defensive line, after the Reconquista it must continue keeping his defensive role this time against the neighboring Kingdom of Aragon. Paradoxically despite to be a zone of hard-fought between Castilians and Arabs it was reconquered and resettled by Alfonso I el Batallador, King of Aragon. It was a contested area between the two Kingdoms.
I base my opinion in his defensive role from the discovery of medieval ogival arch remains in the teacher´s house and buried human remains, to all this I add that the priest´s house was in front of the teacher´s house and not close to the church whisch is typical in Spain. With the union of the Crown of Aragon and Castile and the lost of his defensive role the tower become the Church parish of the Inmaculada Concepción.
Later in the Cadastre of the marquis of the la Ensenada the old church appeared as a Hospital for poor people and needy persons and it counted with a surgeon financed by Mezquetillas, Alcubilla de las Peñas and Romanillos de Medinaceli.
My father´s town, Hontangas, belongs to the land of the villa de Haza, it was built first in the Riaza´s right bank around the San Mames´chapel, today in ruins, and it belonged to the Castilian´s first line of advance over the river Duero.
Por las dos partes? Hontangas y..?
